Three-Year Academic Plan for Transfers

Sample Only – Students may need additional courses depending on their transfer courses.

All courses required for the major must be taken for a letter grade, including all lower division math and science courses.

Transfer students should also review the Structural Engineering Undergraduate Handbook page 19 for additional important information.

General Three-Year Plan

Fall Quarter Winter Quarter Spring Quarter
First Year Math 20E* SE 101B* SE 3*
  SE 101A* SE 110A SE 9*
  SE 1 GE SE 110B
      SE 104/104L*
Second Year SE 101C SE 115 SE 130B
  SE 121A SE 121B SE 131
  SE 130A FS FS
Third Year SE 125 FS CAPSTONE* FS CAPSTONE*
  FS FS TE
  TE TE GE

GE = General education/college requirement.

FS =  Focus sequence course.  Students must take one full focus sequence (FS) in either Civil Structures, Aerospace Structures, Structural Health Monitoring/Non-Destructive Evaluation (SHM/NDE) or Geotechnical Engineering.  See the link below for additional information on the Focus Sequence requirements.

FS CAPSTONE*: Most students take either SE 140A/B or SE 143A/B depending on their chosen FS with the exception of students completing the Structural Health Monitoring/Non-Destructive Evaluation (SHM/NDE) focus sequence.

TE = Technical elective course. Students must take three technical elective (TE) courses chosen from a preapproved list.  See the link below for the preapproved list of TEs.

Math 20E*: Students who have taken a vector calculus course at a non-UC college must pass a Math 20E Requirement Fulfillment Exam to demonstrate an appropriate level of comprehension to satisfy the Math 20E requirement. This is NOT a placement test. In order to receive transfer credit for UCSD MATH 20E, all students must take the MATH 20E Requirement Fulfillment Exam. More information and test dates can be found at the following site: http://www.math.ucsd.edu/undergraduate/testing-and-placement/math-20e-fulfillment-exam/

*Students who think they may have transfer credit for AutoCad (SE 3), MatLab (SE 9), Statics (SE 101A), Dynamics (SE 101B), or Materials (SE 104) (or any other major class) should see their major advisor ASAP before fall quarter regarding petitioning those class(es) and adjusting their schedule.

Students should note that not all focus sequence classes will be offered every year and courses are subject to change.
