Nicholas J. Martignetti, P.E., S.E., Project Manager & San Diego Office Director

The son of a general contractor, Nick was exposed to all the skilled trades from a very young age. This valuable experience has helped to provide a unique ability to marry construction with design, particularly in wood framed residential homes. He has worked on a wide range of projects varying from renovations to production and custom homes in all parts of the country. Nick obtained both a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering from Villanova University. He moved out to the west coast in 2020, and opened up M+K’s San Diego office. Along with being the Office Director, he is a Project Manager and leads M+K’s business development in the West.

Richard J. Zabel, P.E., Project Manager & Director of Engineering

Ricky graduated from The University of Delaware with a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering. From day one, Ricky has demonstrated a commitment to technical excellence, hard work, attention to detail, and exceptional communication. He has been the primary engineer on countless single-family home and townhome projects throughout the country and in the process has accumulated a wealth of experience. In 2020, he relocated to the San Diego office where he specializes in custom home designs on the west coast. In addition to being a Project Manager, Ricky also holds the position of Director of Engineering, where he is responsible for overseeing and leading the technical operations of the entire company.

Mulhern + Kulp is a full-service structural engineering consulting firm, providing services to architects, builders, and developers nationwide. As one of the largest firms in the residential industry, we specialize in wood framed design, particularly single-family homes and townhomes. Please join us to learn more, as we will be reviewing some general wood construction knowledge and common terms, going over construction roles and the people involved, outlining the design services provided by Mulhern + Kulp, and discussing the importance of structural engineering in residential design. Most curriculums tend to focus on mid and large-scale projects and do not
typically emphasize smaller, residential projects, so come on out and learn some basics to see if residential structural engineering interests you!
